CRIT DAY!

What a day... ahh lovely, delightful! so today I crit Kibeom Park, Ji Sun Lee, Jeanny Tatiana Machuca Montano.

So my work was the first to be crit today! and i recieved positive feedback from people which i was glad to get because i put a lot of effort into it this 2 weeks. and now im looking forward to hopefully developing my project further for the final crit! YUS!

Then at 10:30 I moved to the animation group to crit Kibeom Park, here is a link to his blog http://kibomkun.wordpress.com/ his animation was very good! well made and he obviously took alot and alot of photos, you could really see the development! definate M material there and i enjoyed his ideas of a projection space and having engineers planners architects and an analyst all working in the same office! Very clear and extremely well drawn! great work!

Next was Ji Sun Lee, http://jslee92.tumblr.com/ I dont know if she has updated her blog yet but her project seemed interesting and i liked her movie, i look forward to seeing how she develops this space for her final presentation!

Then finally it came to Jeanny http://jeannysdesign.blogspot.com/ another good video although taking more photos could have helped. also very interesting gestural use of materials, and perhaps if she turned the page over and worked on the back instead of working over her drawings so it was clearer as to what was what but overall great work Jeanny.

so, did I hear free weekend? no. I heard, time to get history done so it doesn't eat into next weeks design time!

PHOTOS OF MY MODEL!

here they are,

definitely time well spent!

development!

so i have developed my ideas a little, i've decided to have the tram run through the glass shell of my tram stop. also for my model i will make it by hand and then use the laser cutter to do some etching into a panel of perspex at 1:1 with some information about the railway station building as i will have several panels of glass etched into with information about the railway station and my new developments, a bit like a timeline or history of the area so not only will it be a tram stop but also a walk through information center. the top level where the actual tram stop is will be connected to the lower alfresco dining/bar area via steps on the interior of the glass shell also made from glass. the reason i chose to use glass was as to not obscure the vision of the old railway but instead to be something completely different and stand alone that also doesn't detract from the area, seeing as the brief was about giving not imposing. here are some pages of sketches i have done over the past few days.

Inspiration.

this thursday i was told to look at exsisting glass buildings because my ideas of making a smaller brick train stop would have probly detracted too much from the original site, the idea then was to make a see through glass box of sorts. the artist kate woods (someone i studied last year for yr13 painting) does some great artworks that inspired me using triangles to make 3 dimensional shapes.

also as i googled for glass building this building came up which really took my eye, although it looks quite similar to crystals and i think i prefer to make more abstracted shapes as to not be instantly recognizable as to not be the focus but instead leave the old railway station as the only recognizable element.

From this i made a model out of mostly equilateral triangles and then as it spill over the edge using less similar triangular shapes.

so this is the start of my design process but now i think i have to work in with using these shapes to create a thought out space not just a random allotment of shapes. TO THE DRAWING BOARD!!

WEEK 8&9

So I did create another separate blog for weeks 4&5 but that only seemed to confuse people and make it more difficult for them to find evidence of my work and my development. So I thought i would just blog on this one from now on!

Today it's Wednesday the 21st and i went to studio to present the tram route me, Suki, Maddie and Rob came up with when we went down to the site in the rain on Monday. Basically it's a route that connects Alfresco dining  and Bars in the viaduct to some areas we think would be good to introduce around Parnell and around the site for example converting the carpark by the old railway station into a few bars with alfresco dining. The stop to access these bars would be on the higher level in line with the entrance to the railways station with stairs to access the lower level and entertainment. I'm going to go down to site to do some research of the site and find out the following things.
-Surrounding buildings
-Lighting (day and night)
-wind tunnel effect?
-where north is in relation to my site
-shade/sun/night light
-views
-where the stop is facing
-what side of the road
-access (pedestrian and car)
-things you might want to engage with
-footpath or road.

An idea i've just had is to have an enclosed area like a shell so if you know its a while before the tram gets there you can go further into the coil to be warmer and out of the weather and the closer the tram is the brighter it gets so you know to go out to get on the tram.

there is a question of size, whether i simply want a tram stop where people can sit or somewhere people would enjoy to sit whether catching the tram or not, also how many peoples worth of seating to accommodate for 5? 10? 20? I hope to answer some of these questions when i visit the site after lunch and take lots of photos and take lots of notes.

By tomorrow I need to present a basic first idea of my stop, materials/weathering thought about. also a much more detailed report on the site conditions.

I must make sure i remember that the whole idea of this project is to gift back to the community to give something back, to improve.

WEEK 6-7

WOW! what a journey! but at last its all over! so i haven't been able to blog this whole time as my laptop has been acting up and i've been so busy making my model which then apparently wasn't even really that good because it didn't really show anything special. great! but thats ok because life is short as the day is long and tomorrow is always another day so i guess now that its all over i can focus on the next project!

Today I saw some great work from Ryun Je Yoo, Ivrel Kagaoan and Han Kyun Lee.
they all were in the laser cutting group and produced some really nice models! Ivrel's model was very interested in the nature of buildings and how little nature there actually is around Auckland! he combated this by using a tree pattern for the roof of his building, great work Ivrel! Next i saw Ryun's work, he had created a multi-storied (5) recreation center where you could go to rock climb, play soccer, basketball, work out or go for a spa! i loved the colors you used Ryun and also you overall project fantastic! Han Kyun Lee created a 5 story building each story with a different purpose and he illustrated that purpose somewhat in the cross sectional cut of that building, the bottom storey was for storage, one was a spa room, and the top 2 where for study!
I would like to thank Ryun Je Yoo, Ivrel Kagaoan and Han Kyun Lee for all their great work and the advice you gave me, thanks!

IDEA!!

this is where my idea started, ironically im postng it last, this is because the photoshopped files were on my laptop at home and i had to go all the way back to get them a i forgot about them briefly!!
